As the Principal Data Scientist at Cambiar, Joel leads initiatives to leverage data and analytics to drive value and efficiency across the organization.

Prior to this role, Joel spent seven years as the Principal Data Scientist at Murmuration, developing data products, conducting research, and building tools to enhance civic engagement for education-focused non-profit organizations. Before joining Murmuration, Joel led data and engineering projects for various U.S. Federal government agencies, focusing on risk analysis, decision support, and automation. 

Joel holds a PhD in Experimental High Energy Physics from Michigan State University, where he focused on the search for new phenomena as part of the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider.

After spending 14 years in Chicago, DC, and New York, Joel returned to his home state of Michigan in 2020, where he enjoys hiking, kayaking, and cross-country skiing.
